someone to talk to

Someone to Talk To

A couple weeks ago I was having a really bad night. It’s too personal for me to want to share publicly right now, but I needed someone to talk to. I could have talked to my wife, friends, parents, or even the myriad of followers I have on social media. But I needed someone who didn’t know me to lend an unbiased ear.

Have you ever been in that situation? It seems sometimes we want to talk to a stranger just because they likely won’t judge or make assumptions about us. Or maybe what you want to say is not something you are ready to tell people you know? Some of you reading this that know me are probably making judgements and assumptions about me right now. Deal with it :-)

Sometimes the best advice is actually no advice. Just a listener. I found that’s all I really wanted, someone I could vent with. So I googled “someone to talk to” and found this website 7 Cups of Tea. I was impressed. A website that allows me to connect with a stranger and I can just type at them and they will listen and be supportive of me no matter what I’m going through.

It’s funny because I was just wrapping up one of my first Maker/Mistaker Sessions with another creative who needed just that. Someone to talk to. I went from offering help as a listener to needing love and support as a struggling human being myself. On the 7 Cups of Tea website I found myself venting pretty hardcore about my situation and the listener was almost too passively kind. I kind of wish they were telling me what to do, but in the end I felt better. Deep down I really do know what to do, I just needed someone else to help get it out of me. To believe in me. After about 30-40 minutes, I felt relieved. Nothing really changed other than I felt safe and comfortable telling this complete stranger about my problems. It was off my chest.

I actually felt inspired by this experience that I wanted to become a listener myself. It made me realize that offering help like this is something that I feel a natural calling to do. It further validated my Maker/Mistaker Session ideas as well. So I signed up to be a listener on the site and have had a few intimate conversations with complete strangers who are going through a lot of trouble. From emotional abuse, depression, anxiety, fear, worthlessness, etc. I would chat with them for over an hour and they eventually felt better. I was not only allowing them to vent, but I managed to inspire them more than they expected. Who would have known?

But that’s not all. It’s helped ME tremendously. On one hand, I am learning how to become a more compassionate listener. But on the other hand, it satisfies a craving for deep connection and an outlet for my unconditional love. My unconditional love is boundless when it’s on and it makes me feel connected to everyone and everything in the universe! It’s magical.

So, I’m going to keep doing the listener sessions on 7 Cups of Tea for a while, but also I hope to get more clients for my Maker/Mistaker Sessions. So if you’re reading this and you want someone to talk to, feel free to contact me. If you’re looking for a free chat with someone, I would recommend the 7 Cups of Tea site – but if you want to talk to me specifically, I’m charging $100 per one-hour session. Phone, video chat, face to face, whatever works for you. Just know that I’m here for you.

  3. Hi, I’ll talk to anyone anytime for no money, in fact I would never accept any money from anyone for speaking to them. Does that make sense? I do have a degree in philosophy, so I must know what I am talking about

  4. Thank you so much for sharing 7 Cups of Tea!! I went on there and felt like the listener got the answers right out of me. It felt so wonderful and it inspired me to help out on this site, too. It felt wonderful to connect to someone who shared the same issue I was having… goes to show you there are no coincidences! Keep up the great work, Jeff! Your blog has inspired me tremendously.
